Productivity...

Many students that attend today's schools are not getting results from the training they receive in the classroom. With exposure to mass media via Internet, television, and other electronic sources, students should be more prepared than those from the past. More than ever, students are dropping out of school, not graduating on time, and/or graduating but functionally illiterate (limited reading and writing ability). What do you think some of the reasons are? What can parents and teachers do to help the next generation of students?

The Students this generation are a lot less focoused than they used to be. All the electronic sources we have today are very distracting, and can be miss leading. This generation is very spoiled, and we don't use the tools we have very wisely.More and more students are droping out, because lack of support. Most of their parents don't support them nor do they care if they graduate or not. Sad but true. Therfore the teachers should help motivate the students more, and help them out more in the next generation. The parents don't need to let their kids run wild,so thay way they can focous on whats really important, and that is getting their education.

Well, I believe that the main reasons for all the kids dropping out of school is mainly the technology. The reason why I say technology is there are just too many things to do that keeps the kids occupied than school work. When it comes down to video games, internet and parents being to occupy with work, the kids just are not getting the discipline or attention that they need and it is not all the kids fault. As with my kids, I sit down and go over my kids homework with them and help them as much as much as possible with their homework and hope that when they become old enough to quit school that they will think long and hard before they make a mistake they may regret.

With respect to those who are responsible enough to do what it is they have to do when they make bad decisions, and learn from their mistakes. I believe the problem with kids and their lack of motivation, illiteracy, and addiction to technology that does everything for them is quite obvious. I 100% believe the reason for kids being the way they are rests solely on the parents shoulder. Technology may distract kids, and limit their ability to think for themselves, but lets face it, had the parents not been so lazy and uncaring, they would have taught their kids to think with their own brains and encouraged them to finish whatever it may be that they started. When I was going through school my parents always motivated me to keep on going, no matter the hard times or the failures. Whether they did this by praise or by discipline when needed they were there. I was fortunate enough to grow up not being allowed to sit in front of video games or televisions all day. I was made to interact with family friends and the outdoors. I thank my parents for the way the raised me because it gave me a sense of pride and the ability to use common sense when needed and think for myself. See, in today’s society kids are having kids. Parents act as though they do not have time to care for their kids…but they had time to have sex and make the irresponsible decision to not better protect themselves. What do you know! Nine months later they have a child. Now that the child is able to “entertain” themselves, parents will just buy them games or cars or allow them to quit school as long as they don’t bother the parents they don’t care. I do not believe that teachers can do anything about this problem I believe it is solely a “home’ issue. The way to fix it is for parents to start caring about their kids and since they believe that are not doing anything wrong, I don’t see it changing.

Leona(SWGATC)Students today are very dependent on modern technology. The services provided by the computer, watching television and videos, make things much easier to accomplish assignments in a timely fashion. However, in the past everyone had to use their own brain power. Everything was done manually such as, type using a typewriter, write papers and correct them, read and research from text books and learning from books by reading. The technological advancements were not available in the past as they are today. Technology today has made learning move along faster and more efficient. Parents and teachers can help by mixing modern technology and the past. This is a good way to push students to learn and retain more information. Although by doing things manually it is considered a hindrance because it is more time consuming and cost effective.

I believe there is too much technology these days. Kids don’t even know how to count money back to people. They are so used to calculators, that it has totally messed them up. I know we have a lot of good technology but I don’t like most of it. Just like now, I’m sitting here typing this blog to be turned in over the internet instead of sitting down and writing on a piece of paper and turning it in. What in the world happened to regular test papers that you actually done with a pencil and paper. All this nonsense of sending work through e-mail and hoping it gets there, and teachers giving homework on computers and really don’t care if you have a computer at home or if you have one that works is really crazy to me. I guess I’m just getting too old!
